Mother's Day Brunch, Dinner Mississauga and Cinco De Mayo

Here are the Mother's Day brunch and dinner notices for two restaurants in Mississauga: The Waterside Inn and Ten Restaurant and Wine Bar, both in Port Credit. As well, Ten's parent resto -- On The Curve, near Square One -- is celebrating Cinco de Mayo tomorrow (May 5).

First for Mother's Day - if there are any seats still to be had for this busiest of holidays. If you want to take mom out for brunch or dinner, you'd better call now.


The Waterside Inn Mother's Day May 10 Brunch is $43.00 per person, but children under 12 half price, two seatings 11:00 am or 1:30 pm, reservations recommended; Mother's Day dinner runs $48-$57 plus tax and tip. Call 905-891-6225 or see watersideinn.ca

With H1N1 in Mexico, most of the May 5 Cinco de Mayo parties in Mexico had to be cancelled. This may be the closest we'll get to marking one of the biggest Central America holidays.

And after brunch on Sunday, head west along Lakeshore to Brueckner Rhododendron Gardens, where the azaleas, magnolias and spring bulbs are in flower. And, no, they are not meant to be picked for a Mother's Day bouquet :-) See pics at this blog post.

Easter Egg Hunt Hong Kong China ~ Easter Brunch Port Credit Canada More Signs of Spring!

A few more signs of the Easter (read: Spring) Season in today's mail:

From Hong Kong, a reminder of the annual Easter egg hunt and from right here in Port Credit, Ontario, of the annual Easter Sunday Brunch at TEN Restaurant.

First, news from Hong Kong Tourism Board :

Over the Easter weekend, families will descend on Discovery Bay for the ever-popular Easter Egg Treasure Hunt. Some 20,000 eggs will be buried on Tai Pak Beach, including the prize eggs that entitle finders to some great prizes. So hit the beach or the nearby Fun Fair, and don’t forget your camera. Those who prefer treasure hunting of a different sort should check out various shopping malls in town, which will be offering a range of holiday promotions.

More info (choose your language) at HKTB.com Hong Kong has no low season so book hotels, etc well in advance. And if you are transiting via Hong Kong over a holiday, make allowances for even more traffic and possible closures. Hong Kong also celebrates other western holidays such as Halloween, Christmas, New Years, Mother's Day.

Port Credit Crooked Cue and Harp Pub

The Port Credit area of Mississauga (Ontario, Canada) has dozens of restaurants and a more than a few pubs, prompting one resident to label it: 'Port Credit - The Drinking Village with a Sailing Problem!'

The Crooked Cue (picture below) illustrates both sides of Port Credit -- a popular restaurant sports bar combo on Lakeshore Road, just steps from the marina on the Credit River and the Lighthouse.
We went to The Crooked Cue for a birthday dinner pub crawl one Saturday night. I, for one, was pleasantly surprised by the good food and lively, 'normal' atmosphere -- meaning it wasn't an Athletic-Supporter-Only club. Though there are several pool tables and a number of well-placed large screen televisions tuned to sports channels, they don't dominate the restaurant, and there's a good mix of clientele. Oddly enough, I'd not before been tempted inside, being slightly put off by the name: I imagined I'd find a rough crowd of large men swilling beer and shooting pool. (Turns out they're not all large, and didn't look rough!) The Crooked Cue is a lot more upscale than my imagination led me to believe.

And for those of you looking for a Sunday Brunch, The Crooked Cue sign advertises brunch every day of the week, so go nuts!.

Almost next door to The Crooked Cue is The Harp Restaurant and Pub, another popular spot to meet friends or drop by and see who's around. The Harp, I confess, I've been to several (ahem) times, as I am addicted to the grilled chicken wings they serve. Oh, the beer is good, too!

Port Credit really comes into its own in the summertime, so plan now to come out for the 2008 edition of the Waterfront Festival. This year, it kicks off on Friday the thirteenth and goes until Sunday afternoon / early evening. All the action is a short walk from the Port Credit GO station, so you don't even have to drive from Toronto.
